That afternoon he held my hand
the way he held it when I said
yes
two years ago.
After the Roller Coaster, he invited me to
a Ferris wheel ride.
Inside our capsule, he said
I love you
and my cheeks were
so pink they became the envy
of the cotton candy.
In the middle of the ride,
he kissed me in a way
that made me swear
in the back of my mind
that I would never leave
him.
Now,
as I look back all I can
remember is that afternoon
in the park: that kiss and his car
disappearing in the distance
like the sun saying
goodbye.
