I heard you found
a new outlet for love
and our old microwave.
I miss that thing
the way it turned
a bowl of cold soup into
a bowl of less cold soup or
how it would pop
open when the popcorn was only
kind of burnt.
I miss the way it fit
snugly on the tile of the breakfast bar
or wedged in the plaster
of the living room wall.
I lost power
last week,
the costly new microwave
next to the toaster
shouldering most of the blame
since you left.
My landlord tells me
I have to actually pay
my bills instead of simply
thinking about paying them
and that I’ve been too
loud in recent weeks and
by the way he says
his hand clasping
the cusp of my shoulder
you still need to fix
that hole in the wall.
