In the receding reservoir
blue heron pose
like bleached driftwood
over the water
until fish ripple their reflection,
and they strike…then resume
the mannequin stillness
like the fishermen ankle deep
with bow and arrow ready
for a shadow target
squirming through reeds.
The shot fires and quietly
the pair hunt again.
