elvin jones

I.
gutted angel,
a gospel of blues.
black and gold,
hands that crack open sounds.
bashful waves bash into
the sea. heaven afloat in the distant sky,
ascending the rolling waters.
minister,
I am a devoted disciple.

II.
gashes in the head of a little boy
found in the river,
his body evaporating.
a ton of bricks
tied to his leg.

worship and tribute:

blue dust,
blue ocean,
blue sand,
blue man,
blue hands.

freedom is ingested.
exhale,
smoke elevates.
afro blue,
elvin jones on drums.
