In homage to Megan Gannon
if the winter is too cold
if a window sticks
if leaves turn yellow with black spots
if spills leave a mess
if the heart
if this
if solving for x where x equals your life minus your regrets
if when
if
if it sits after a night
if you pour two cups full
if whether
if blood and grass stain your shirt and shorts
if the sand is cool under footsteps
if rain seeps in between the cracks and erodes the once firm foundation
if hands that help to mend now rip apart
if wooden floors creak by themselves at night
if burned
if under a tree during a storm; not able to find warm shelter
if conditions are met, but your mind is still unsatisfied
if the pot and the kettle are of the same color
if birds sing
if your skin pulls off after a sunburn
if and when you are ready to take that first leap with eyes closed
if shadows slowly fade without the dark clouds shrouding the sun
if grass grows in unwanted areas of the yard
if your soul is lost along with your hope
if flesh
if when scratching, hair falls out
if lying with truth
if told to run
if everything you tried fails, then
