Just A Story

It happens many times a day
a story with the same outcome
a person seized
600,000 times a year
someone you know crying
you can hear this voice pleading
in this garage, in that public place
on cold wet grass, against a wall
intimate details discussed by strangers
those dark alarming bruises
why to be explained
where to be asked
who to be described
and then the terrible how
in more, in more, in more detail
the hideous hospital kit
struggling to hold the phone
trying to talk through tears
then a silent ride home.
