In Each Emotional Blossom

1.
                        Writing a poem, you sd
Should be like speaking yr own name

To a despot in the ghetto of a beautiful nightmare
Or like bathing in the dark

With bloody pieces of someone you love
The grass growing up like bent men

Between their fingers

& after it rained we pooled what we had lost

& got rashes from the motel sheets—
In retrospect the world was a baffling place

2.
                        This night, you sd,
Should be a fantasy of broken kitchen chairs for us—

A drunken man acting like the broken body of a horse
His mind at a gallop

The little children of his poems entering like rain

To ride such a horse is not a vacation
The light has a pulse & swerves in from the sink

Whatever we write is incomplete—
The laughing horseplay of a boy
