St. Augustine: The Ocean Blue & Teeming But Sad

Time was only our notion of something standing completely still. & like two halves of the same actor you sd, Fuck Ponce de León! & I sd, & fuck his fountain of youth! & picked the dirty love notes you’d written out of the top of my bikini. & so we moved at each other’s edges—you getting drunker just watching me swim, me a gull unable to feed or give birth & so tan & thin by then, & so girly you could look right thru me & see the ocean. In this photo I can’t find of us I was the ghost of yr ex. The gnats were tiny glittering tears I kept wiping from yr face.
