All in the Family

Nothing shames more
than as a child
the sight of two male adults
assisting your passed out drunk father
through the front door entrance
after he drove into a ditch
in front of the house
other than the sight
of your six-year-old
crying over you lying
on the living room carpet
awaking from a passed out
drunken episode
because she thought
you were dead.

Author of four collections of poetry, Ben Rasnic currently resides in Bowie, Maryland, and crunches numbers in Fairfax, Virginia, to make ends meet. His poetry has been nominated for The Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net.
