Trees and streets and rivers
run with their names
curved in arcs between rosemary
and a burgeoning bottle tree grove

small hands splayed aqua, rose,
lemon, soft apricot
like fruit –
a chattering tesserae
a mosaic of bright eyes
only silenced by a soft
bilby hush sometimes

my own eyes drawn always
to the small ceramic cloud
pulling against the grout
the fiesty mint green fish
that will one day swim away

both held for now in the warm
terracotta of what is known
