heartbeat blues

god given
language
to
survive in a
heartless
world

gut-buckets on
grandmothers’ porches

viral roots along rough strings
purple hazed routes where
men stop to
smoke cigarettes and
women rest
leaning on trees or
sleeping on rocking chairs

the electricity that comes from the
womb of the world

a one-way ticket
and a bridge to all that came after

street corners kissed by the sun
right through the night

tears
were created for healing
