If You’re Asking Why I Left

Because she made me lie naked with her
Because she wanted a mother/husband/best friend
Because I didn’t know how to make a choice

Because some creatures eat their young
Because my wings were abscessed and would
not spring from my back
Because her revisions always ended with me
in a bad way

Because I know not to pull into oncoming traffic
Because albumen becomes white when
separated from the yolk
Because I did not know I would love her if I stayed
