A Friend in Inclement Weather Paradox

You read the diatribe on your mobile device,
and wonder what brought about such vitriol.
Perhaps you didn’t feed him when you had food,
or pay him out enough when you had money.

Perhaps you didn’t turn the heating up a few degrees,
or forgot to mention his seat at the Christmas table.
Perhaps you didn’t proffer enough conversation,
or give him the nude photographs of your wife.

Whatever the story behind his new-found hatred,
you must walk a mile through the snow
in his shoes, and afterwards, you might conclude:
A friend in inclement weather is no friend at all.
