Recapturing Moments

I struggle
to remember
last week’s
dreams—
withered fields
of dried up
wildflowers
where no one
hears our footsteps
crossing
Iowa meadows
under indigo skies,
a red-winged
blackbird,
the only witness
to our intrusion.
